On the Move!

Monthly walks for LGBTQ+ people and allies

Join our monthly walks in Redbridge and beyond running from March to September 2024. The walks are for local LGBTQ+ adults and allies. We combine the walks with other activities to support wellbeing, creativity and other skills, as well as the chance to just meet and get to know other local LGBTQ+ people. There are also opportunities to volunteer to help lead the walks (training will be provided). Please book in advance to join the walks.

Saturday 23rd March 2024, 11.00 - 1pm: Hainault Forest trail

Our first walk of the year will take us around Hainault Forest, finishing up at the 1856 cafe. Attendees will have the chance to hear more about our new walking project and suggest ideas for future walks.

Saturday 20th April 2024, 11.00 - 1pm: Wanstead bluebell walk

This walk will be led by our friends at Epping Forest Heritage Trust. The route will include viewing the bluebells and spotting the ground nesting Skylarks.

Saturday 18th May 2024, 11.00 - 2pm: Epping Forest circular walk

This walk will be led by our friends at Epping Forest Heritage Trust. We’ll meet at the edge of Forest (approx 10 mins walk from Loughton Underground station - we will share the exact meeting point closer to the time). The 6km/ 4 mile route will take us through ancient woodland and an iron age fort at Loughton Camp and includes a history of the ancient forest and forest bathing (this is about observing and appreciating the nature around us and does not involve any swimming!).

Tuesday 18th June 2024, 6-8pm: Valentines Park history walk

We’ll be making the most of the longer evenings to come together during Pride Month. Our friends at Eastside Community Heritage will be leading a walk starting in Gant’s Hill through Valentines Park and its surroundings, exploring LGBTQ+ heritage and queer nature. Accessibility: the walk will be on paved or tarmac pavements or paths.

Saturday 10 August 2024, 11am - 1pm: Exploring Chase Nature Reserve and Eastbrookend Country Park

We'll be meeting up with the Barking and Dagenham Adult Social Network to explore these fantastic green spaces. Find out more and reserve your free spot

Sunday 15 September 2024, 3 - 5pm: LGBTQ+ History Walk along the Thames

We will walk eastwards along the Thames northbank exploring LGBTQ+ history along the way. After the walk we will provide some soft drinks and snacks at The Old Ship. Find out more and reserve your free spot

Accessibility: In general we will walk on paths, but these can be uneven and muddy, especially in the Spring. We will try to avoid steep inclines or down steep declines. Please contact us if you have any questions related to your access requirements or would like to suggest any accessible walking routes we could use.

This project is supported by the Walking and Cycling Grants London programme, a grants programme funded by Transport for London in partnership with The London Marathon Foundation and administered by Groundwork London.
